Good start to the new year
Very cold day....
This was the 1st day back after the Christmas and New Year break, on a very cold day at Old Bristolians. The pitch was not as wide as usual, but allowed for a much more physical game against a very good side.
The 1st 15 minutes was tight, very good tackling and rucking from both sides, with few opportunities for fast breaks from anyone. Just before half time, we won the ball on one wing, then quickly passed the ball across the line, before Harry made a perfect pass to Logan who sprinted down the line (losing a boot in the process), before scoring in the corner.
In the 2nd half we took a bit more control of the game, forcing OB's back into their half. Our 2nd try came from Charlie W driving at the defensive line; he was unable to to get the ball down, but after good work from the forwards, the ball somehow managed to get to Logan who scored again.
Our 3rd try came from some good play from the team, but then finished off by Tom W, who used his strength and determination to drive through a few of their players.
We worked hard on our try line keeping out OB's, with some good tackling, and Charlie S ripping the ball from the oposition on numerous occasions, then being able to make good ground up the pitch. We did however unfortunately concede a try right on the final blow of the whistle: final score 3-1 to Thornbury.
Man of the match was Tom W for his all round play and work rate, especially his tackling. Notable mentions were William, who worked very hard the whole game, also Harry and Charlie S who had excellent games.
It was a very satisfying team performance, and with 2 wins in a row, we are starting to see what this team is made of. Hopefully we can continue this good run next week.
